Blizzard has confirmed that the WoW Classic TBC Phase 2 release date has been set for September 15

Blizzard has confirmed that the WoW Classic: TBC Phase 2 release date has been set for September 15, with plans for fresh classic servers to follow in the future.

In addition to announcing that TBC Phase 2 is going live on September 15, they said: “We’re also working on something for WoW Classic players who’ve told us they’d like a chance at a fresh start and will be sharing more on our plans soon.”

While WoW TBC will be getting some much needed new content next month, the World of Warcraft team is also planning new PTR experiences.

Shadowlands Update 9.1.5 will be going on the PTR next week, and will include fan-requested features, such as making it easier to swap covenants and conduits, updates to make it so you don’t need to repeat covenant campaigns on alts, and new character customization options for some races that were lacking them.

The release will come 15 weeks after the official launch of TBC Classic. While this marks an early start for Arena season two, it’s a late start for Tier Five raiding content.

Though Tempest Keep and Serpentshrine Cavern raids were available on release of TBC in the mid-2000s, the instances were locked behind a number of attunement chains that it took players at the time a while to figure out.

The WoW Classic TBC Phase 2 patch notes have been updated, with Blizzard listing these changes as being added to the final World of Warcraft release:

PvP Rewards

  •     Outland factions’ PvP gear now unlocks with Phase 2 and requires Revered reputation to purchase.
  •     These are items sold in Thrallmar, Honor Hold, Cenarion Expedition, The Sha’tar, Lower City, and the Keepers of Time.
  •     The reputation requirement will be adjusted to Honored when Sunwell Plateau is released, to match the original Burning Crusade patch 2.4.
  •     Honor will not be reset at the beginning of Season 2. When Season 1 ends, there will be a two-week off-season period. When Season 2 begins, any remaining unspent Arena points will be converted to Honor Points at a rate of: 1 Arena Point = 10 Honor Points.

Raid Rewards

  •     High King Maulgar, Gruul the Dragonkiller, and Magtheridon will drop two Tier 4 tokens each when Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye are released.
  •     Leothoras the Blind, Fathom-Lord Karathress, Lady Vashj, Void Reaver, and Kael’thas Sunstrider will drop 2 Tier 5 tokens each.

Of course, some people had concerns. Some feel like it was a little too soon, while others believe it won’t be a significant improvement unless they do something about botters and gold buyers, which have been running rampant.

Still, it’s a net positive for a community in dire need of something new to rejuvenate the experience, and they can’t wait to hear more about it in the coming weeks and months.
